Little Abigail and the Beautiful Pony

There was a girl named Abigail
Who was taking a drive
Through the country
With her parents
When she spied a beautiful sad-eyed
Gray and White pony.
And next to it was a sign
That said,
FOR SALE--CHEAP
"Oh" said Abigail
"May I please have that pony?
May I please?"
And her parents said,
"No you may not."

And Abigail said
"But I MUST have that pony."
And her parents said,
"Well, you can't have that pony
But you can have a nice butter pecan
Ice cream cone whaen we get home."
And Abigail said,
"I don't want a butter pecan Ice cream cone,
I WANT THAT PONY--
I MUST HAVE THAT PONY."
And her parents said,
"Be quiet and stop nagging--
You're not going to get that pony."
And Abigail began to cry and said,
"If I don't get that pony, I'll die."
And her parents said, "You won't die.
No child has ever died from not getting a pony."
Abigail felt so bad
That when she got home she went to bed,
And she couldn't eat,
And she couldn't sleep'
And her heart was broken,
And she DID die--
All because of a pony
That her parents wouldn't buy.

(This is a good story
To read to your folks
When they won't buy
You something you want.)

Shel Silverstein

1. My interpretation of this poem is that parents should listen to there kids more but not spoil them.

2. Yes, I do have some figurative language in my poem. In my poem I have one hyperbole in paragraph two line 15 "If i don't get that pony, I'll die." In the poem there is one idiom in paragraph two line 22, "And her heart was broken."

3. My poem falls into the category of free verse because, it has multiple lines (43), also there is no rythem or rymes.

4.The mood of the poem is heartbreaking because Little Abigail's heart was broken when she couldn't have the pony. Little Abigail's parent's hears were broken when their daughter died.

5. I chose this poem because the main character has my name and I love horses and I hate it when animals are sad. When ever I see animals that are hurt or abused I almost cry.

6. I chose this picture because the reason Little Abigail dies is her heart was broken, and this this is a broken heart.
